4K TV's worth it?

Hey all, just going over my Black Friday flyers and I noticed that 4K tv's have dropped in price. Just wondering if they are worth it? If i do make the splash i'd be leap frogging one whole generation (smart tv) lol

4 K content is pretty rare still.
if it were me Id save your money wait 5 years or so until stuff starts coming out in 4K and the TVs are 10 times the quality they are now.

unless your sitting right in front of it, like 5-6 feet in front of a 60" you wont even see a difference. 10-12 feet back its gonna look like 1080.

I agree. Let the broadcast quality determine what quality of tv you should spend your money on right now. I'd wait till there's content at 4k standard to justify owning a 4k tv. It'll be waaaaaaay cheaper by the time you can even watch actual 4k broadcasts. Then you'll see all the wrinkles on the actors and actresses faces, which is why older stars are dreading true HD quality imagery

I like my 4k monitor but as stated not so much for 4k content at the moment.

Although not a TV the resolution was standard set at 3840 x 2160, I have very good vision but you literally have to be 6 inches away (unless you covert to 1920X 1080) to read text.

Think the only real use for 4K right now is pc gaming but to do that you also gotta drop about 1200 dollars on a couple high end graphic cards. 4K blue ray comes out soon also I'm pretty sure. If your just watching tv kinda useless considering hd tv is only broadcast in 720p.

I bought a beautiful LG 65" 4k TV recently for $2300.00. With the upconverting the picture is amazing. In reality a quality tv that size isn't going to get much cheaper. I would go look at the TV your interested in and choose for yourself.

Btw Netflix has a growing selection of 4k content available right now you just can't see the menu unless you have 4k compatible hardware.

There is no 4K standard. Right now, it's similar to the VHS vs Beta or HD vs BD battle.

Probably beneficial to wait this out.

In most situations I can't even tell the difference between 720p and 1080p unless they are side by side. We have a 1080p TV and we shouldn't have bothered.

4k signaling is standardized within the HDMI 1.4a and h.264 codec standards.

All 4k TV's will conform to these standards. The only battle going on is where your content will come from. Smart TV's that connect to Netflix directly can view 4k programs right now. Sony is still working on 4k capable bluray players which will probably be unveiled at this year's CES. And Rogers is currently testing 4k set top boxes for rollout in Ontario and Quebec this spring although the only thing you will be able to watch in 4k will be hockey night in Canada at first.
