So fixing them to live rock would let them propagate as they wish and keeping them attached to rocks in the sand bed forces them to stay small.

My plan is to use them as coverage for my rock over broad areas in the middle to low portions of my tank.

I just like to control where my coral grows, but you can put them anywhere you like. In my experience i find mushrooms love shades / low light area.

mushrooms split so i dont think it matters where they grow as they are not encrusting

mine have split just growing on the sandbed. it's become a problem now tho as the flow has been carrying them into the back of the tank and they get lost or buried.

Mine in its first stages were just on plugs but the last 2 stages they are attached to their own island rock stuck underneath some shade. I like to group them tightly together because they look the best folded onto of each other for the rippleling look and you can add more rics

I'm screwed... I don't have really any shady spots in my main tank unless I can give some growth hormone to a monti colony and fabricate some.
