Have you looked at Euro-Bracing? No way would I trust wood for the long term and I also would have trouble with a 24" center brace.

Yes it's still a possibility but I have heard it's a pain in arse to clean. Aside from that I am having trouble finding any decent glass shops around me that can help. So far nobody stocks 1/2" and I would have to buy a full sheet and have it shipped here and then the glass shop can cut. That is going to be way too pricey.
