It defently looks like diatoms. Is ther anything that can kill this like hermits or chemicals and is it good or bad.

Just let your tank cycle. You could reduce lighting a bit and that would help with algae.

Consider setting up an algae refugium with Chaetomorpha. Your tank will go through all kinds of wonderful things as it cycles, diatoms are ugly but harmless
