Default using a quarenteen tank

Keep them seperate. Like Titus said, if you have to medicate you obviously wouldn't want that water back in your display. If you came across a problem with your fish you'd have to set another tank up to medicate defeating the purpose more or less

I used to have a fifteen gallon quarantine tank that I'd fill with a water change from my display. Prior to this and when I knew I was planning a new fish, I'd run my AquaClear 200 with sponge on my reef for a week or two. This worked well.
