I was just wondering I was thinking of plumbing a tank into the system that would be able to be isolated from the system by closing two valves. so my question is that if I quarenteen a fish for a couple weeks befor I add it to the system is it fine to open this water back to the main system or will I have to drain it and replace it?

Hello Steve,

My advice is to keep the two always separate. Certain chemicals will have catastrophic effect on your corals.

Keep them seperate. Like Titus said, if you have to medicate you obviously wouldn't want that water back in your display. If you came across a problem with your fish you'd have to set another tank up to medicate defeating the purpose more or less

I used to have a fifteen gallon quarantine tank that I'd fill with a water change from my display. Prior to this and when I knew I was planning a new fish, I'd run my AquaClear 200 with sponge on my reef for a week or two. This worked well.
