Darn it, I typed in the post hours ago and missed out on pressing submit before some work emergency popped up. I even had to stop MSN'ing for a bit, how traumatic !!

Anyhow yes that's the stuff I was thinking of. I would love to be able to try some of that ..

Seems what is called "Mermaid's cup" is Udotea cyathiformis but what I was specifically thinking of is Acetabularia calyculus.
