Default Edm Mega J&L Salt Order

This topic is split from another thread http://www.canreef.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9394.

I am going to do a huge salt order from J&L for Edmonton and area reefers. IO and Kent 200g pails of salt are available at $49.95 each. I did a 20 pail salt order from J&L a few years back. They will ship large quantities on a pallet by truck. All I need is someone with a van or truck to help pick up the order when it arrives. Truck depot, if they use the same shipping company, is in the west end.

I am going to pick up 9-10 pails of Kent or IO. Either is fine with me. Don't know if J&L can ship both brands of salt on one pallet, but will ask.

Who else is in and how many pails of what kind of salt do you want? Remember, salt will store for a long time if left unopened, that's why I want to do a large order for our reef's needs over the coming months.

From the other thread, a few folks in Calgary were interested in getting in on this order. I think it may be better if you all get together an order to be shipped directly to Calgary. That way no one has to shlep up to Edmonton to pick up your order. If there isn't enough interest down south to do a large order, you are all most welcome to add to the Edmonton order.

I am also going to do a dry goods order at the same time. Folks wanting to get in on the dry goods order are welcome to piggy back their stuff with mine, and we can split shipping costs.

I hope to have the order made by May 15th.

Who is in and what do you want?

I've just discovered that J&L has a sale on all Kent additives, carbons and resins

I will see what Quinn does. He could maybe shlep up to Edmonton, and I could shlep up to Lacombe. As far as a Calgary order goes, I don't even want to try. Whenever someone tries it always seems to go awry.

boB,

I thought you folks down there were very organized, more so than us up here Anyone from Calgary is welcome to come aboard on this order, though, if it coordinates with Quinn and the Calgarians involved.

I would be willing to transport salt. However, I don't know when I'll be in Edmonton next. For now, cancel my order for one bucket until further notice as I may have more than I thought.

Just got a reply from J&L about shipping costs for 20 pails of IO:

The cost to ship 20 pails via Reimer express would be $163.61. You would have to pick it up at the trucking company.

So, for each pail at $49.95 plus $3.50 GST, shipping would be $8.18 for a total per pail of $61.63. Sure beats Edmonton prices.

I was also quoted shipping costs via UPS for 5 pails of IO:

The cost to ship 5 pails via UPS would be $115.41.

For each pail at $49.95 plus $3.50 GST, shipping would be $23.00 for a total per pail of $76.45

Much cheaper by far getting a big order

Who else is in? Who can meet us at Reimer, in the west end, with a truck, van or big car to help pick up the salt?

Cool, Beth. Thanks. I will be putting the order in on May 15 and will let you know when arrival will be. If I remember correctly from the shipment we did a few years ago, Reimer, in the west, end closes at 5 pm or so. Can you make it there by then?
