![]() I am looking for some inspiration. So any links pictures of diy led fixtures or canopies.
I want to do up a diy led fixture for my tank and would like to conceal the wires as good as possible. Let's see it. Thanks! |

![]() Most of the DIY builds I have looked at utilize an existing fixture. Rip the guts out of an old T5 system and mount heatsink and emitters inside reusing existing power cabling and some switching.
An excellent source of DIY LED are the forums at nano-reef.com regardless of tank size. |

![]() Here is a quick one I whipped up using Modular LED.
The one thing that annoyed me was the blinding light you get out of the side when not using optics (this is limited when using U channel). The aluminium U channel is from Princess Auto and cost $36 for an 8 ft length. I run this fanless at about 110F (well within the limits). ![]() This is over a 72x30x24 tank, with no other lighting on (crappy cell phone pic). Raising the lighting about 8" off the water limits the light separation you see in the picture. ![]() And this is it supplementing my other DIY LED light. ![]() |

![]() home depot has the u channels for 4.97 the double wide one are the same price but they are 10 feet long.
you can use tin foil strips to cover the light from spraying outwards. |
