![]() Has anyone done this or herd of this???
I want to make 2 cube tanks from ply wood and fiberglass and use my existing 80 gal to make a podium type tank. I would take the front and 2 sides of the 80 and silicone it to the 2 cubes and then get a new front made up and silicone it and make a few cross braces for extra support?? What do u guys think |

![]() Plywood tanks are great for large applications where glass/acrylic would be too heavy/expensive/ungainly since plywood is cheap and can be built on site with regular wood tools. Plywood tanks are also good for in-wall tanks since you only need one transparent side.
They are essentially inside-out boats with the wood on the outside and the fibreglass/epoxy coating on the inside. |

![]() I've built a 100 gallon and a 76 gallon plywood tank. They have been running for a year now with no problems at all.....i used the Garf.org site for both plans. If you do this and use resin, make sure to use fibreglass tape on all seems....just gives a better seal....good luck and pm me any questions you may have and I can send you some pictures.

![]() Here is another site where a guy builds a plywood tank
http://www.jonolavsakvarium.com/eng_...200litres.html Also check out his tank blog on keeping cold water organisms: http://www.jonolavsakvarium.com/blog/index.html Wood makes good sense for a large coldwater tanks since you will probably insulate four sides to keep in the cold anyways. |
