![]() I acquired an open Brain (I believe its Trachyphyllia sp.) a few weeks back and everything I have read regarding these corals is that they should be fed occasionally to ensure survival. I haven’t been having much success getting it to eat (so to speak) and was wondering about others experience with these corals.
I did manage to feed it a small piece of silverside a couple of weeks past, but since then nothing. It doesn’t seem to send out feeder tentacles (not that I’ve seen) and it seems to feed only from central mouth cavity. How often do you feed these corals? What do you feed? Tips/tricks? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

![]() If no feeding tenticles are being sent out, a good way to get them feeding is to cut the top off a 2 litre pop bottle and place it over the coral and drop some food in, on lthe coral. (the pop bottle prevents stealing from shrimp/fish etc and also prevents the current from taking it away) Once the food has sat on the coral for a while( it can sometimes take a few hours) it should start sending out it's tenticles. You may need to do this several times b/f it starts to do it on its own. The best time to do it is at lights out.

![]() I keep mine Mysis every 2-3 days. For me I get the best results in the morning, since the 'tentacles' come out about 30minutes after the atinics go out, and I am already off to bed by then.

![]() I feed all my "feedable" LPS and anemones in the evening. All the feeder tentacles come out about an hour before lights out. I feed them Piscine Mysis twice a week. Just recently I started feeding the smaller polyped LPS that can't take in a chunk of mysis (like Favia, and an odd type of brain coral) I turn the pumps off and mix 1/8 tsp Coral Frenzy in about 1/4 cup tank water, then use a turkey baster to suck that up, and target feed them. I only do the Coral Frenzy thing once a week. Also, my tank gets dosed with ZEOvit Pohl's Coral Vitalizer and Sponge Power daily.

![]() Silversides are a bit too big for LPS. Stick to mysis and feed in low/no light and low/no flow (pumps off)

![]() Thanks everyone. I'll try the pop bottle method to see if I can induce regular feeding response with Mysis. Hopefully this will wake up the feeding response.
Cheers.
