Make your own heatsink. Its cheaper and easy to do.

You have to build your own heatsink. Head out to metal supermarkets (http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/nonUS/) and pick up a 'slab' of aluminium. Buy some 90 degree 1 x 1 angle aluminium and mount them to the slab. Just drill and tap or just use self tapping screws. Make sure you put a thin layer of dielectric (looks like white grease) in between the 2 pieces.

It'll be cheaper this way as a real heatsink that size will cost you a fortune.

The aluminium is sold by the pound.

or you can buy this from ebay..........http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-HEATSINK-ALU...QQcmdZViewItem for $50USD / foot whichincludes shipping charges to Canada.

Good luck

check with a scrap yard, alot of industrial electronics use huge heatsinks and they get sold to the scrap dealer if the device breaks.
I think i have one huge heatsink at work that is in our scrap bin probably 24" X 40" with 6" fins.

just build your own. use 90 deg angle of u channel.

at 170$ / foot, might as well buy the pfo led light system pre-built.

tell what you decide to do

i will be placing my orders for power supply, drivers, luxeon led and some cree led for a DIY array for my 40glns reef next week.
i will be detailing the progress in the DIY section.
i have been testing some of them in the past month.
i love the colour i get from the royal blue and whites.

the pfo led light system is out of business and you can build one for half the price.

with MH problem, temperature control, bulb replacement every 8mth, high bill, not the output colour i like.

i will be posting everything starting next week, there are few companies i am looking at for best rates.
for starters the purchase is going to be pricey but cheap in the long run.
there are few good posts to read on LED setup at http://www.nano-reef.com/ of course under Lighting Forum read66 LED guide

heres a couple companies i will do business with
www.heatsinkusa.com/
http://www.futureelectronics.com/
http://www.advancetransformer.com/
http://www.arrownac.com/
i will have a better idea about costing in few days

Elias,

how is your LED setup coming along ?

I'm now considering (planning - feasibility review) this setup for me new 200g reef tank. Really like the idea of being able to change the lighting by altering the pulse 1/2 pulse giving you 50% light.

What are the dimensions of your nano tank ??

How many LED's are you using ?? Are you using the CREE's ?? Which one will you be using ?

From a light spectrum prespective - will all the LED's be white or a combination of white and blue ?? How do you achieve the proper balanace ?? I using 10K to 14K MH in my 120g tank now.

How effective is the light emitted from the LEDs ?? Is the light just effective at the bottom of the tank ....say 30" as compared to the top of the tank ??

Thanks.
