These are cool in theory but not so great pets in reality.

Main thing is to make your system totally, I mean TOTALLY, escape-proof. Octopi can escape from any opening that their beak can fit through. They also spend almost all their time hiding in a cave or hole so you'll never see them on a regular basis except at feeding time. They also have very short life spans, most live a year at most & then die after reproducing in the wild. You'll get one that is already several months old so you're buying a temporary "pet" at best.

I had one for several months and we almost never saw it except when I tossed in some shore crabs for it to eat.

Cool to have, but not really the Wow factor we thought it'd be before we bought it.

I think that they should be left in the wild IMO

I had a Bimac for a little while. The bimacs are most common and seem to do better then most in captivity. However none of them live very long.

Here is a cool site www.tonmo.com, lots of info there.

Would I do it again? No. They really should be left in the ocean. They are very illusive and hide most of the time. It is awesome to watch them eat though. I had mine taking frozen shrimp from a feeder stick. It was really neat to feed him. Most times he would grab the food, wrap it up and then spend the next 20 minutes playing my me and the stick. I was neat but some mornings I didn't have time to play. LOL

The enclosure isn't too bad to build. The lid is the toughest part. I used nylon screen to secure any areas of concern. Works like a charm.

I loved my abdopus. it was an incredible experience. Their short lifespan makes it a sad proposition though, they really learn to interact with you, and actually seem to enjoy your attention. Make sure you give them something to play with though...they can go a little stircrazy without a toy or eight.

"You must be," said the Cat."Or else you wouldn't have come here."
