Question Emerald Crab is....

Hi All,

What's up with my Emerald Crab? He is turning almost completely white.

I've been dosing 2 part (Randy's recipe) additive for 2 month now and I think it been since that time frame that I have notice him getting whiter.

I test on a weekly basis so it's not out of whack.

Thanks

I don't think your crabs are dying. I think the white you are seeing is the calcium deposit from you 2 part dosing. I saw this with my emerald's as well. In my opinion, keep dosing as usual but check your Magnesium levels..keep them around 1400ppm.

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep an eye on him. As far as dosing goes, I dose 1/2 cup of each every day and test once a week.

Parameters are: Ph=8.4 , Alk=9.7dKH/3.46 meq/L , Ca=380 , Mg=1380

Every time I do water changes (20% monthly), the levels go back down again. Thats the reason behind dosing daily.

I don't think it is from dosing your tank because my crab looks the same and I dont dose anything.

I don't think its dying either...I've posted this asking the same thing and it seems lots of people have their crabs "bleach out", then they are fine after they molt.
Does it look like this?

How long has he been white? If he otherwise is healthy, maybe he is getting ready to molt.
