![]() Has any one used a hex tank for a reef, I have a 35g hex sitting at my inlaws that I want to use as a salt tank.
Iam thinking that I would start with just live rock for about 2-3 months, maybe a pair of clown fish. I want to go with very light load since I just want to use a canister filter. I would want to use my coralife light, I belive its about 36wats. So not alot of light. I dont think there would be any corals that would realy like that too much. Unless they are very high up in the tank. I dont think I have ever seen a hex salt tank, anyone have any experiance with a hex.

![]() We had a 42g hex a couple of years ago. Had a 175w MH on it, though.
Here's my 42g hex webpage, with pics of when it had a sandbed and when it was BB. |

![]() I have a 65g hex reef....because it is so deep lighting is tough. I have a coralife aqualight pro 36"....it only has a 150w metal halide and I wish that it was a 250w but that model wasn't out yet. It is a challenging tank as it is viewed from so many sides but nonetheless it is beautiful! I had a 5g hex Nano for my Mom...which we just set up .... it's cute
Here's my tank; ![]()

![]() So it can be done, Iam kind looking for more of a cliff look, with some corals at the top and more bare closer to the bottom.
I was hoping for more inverts and a pair of clowns then any thing else. I think I will give it a shot, thanks for the pics.
