Looks like aiptasia. Joe's juice works for me, but doesn't for everyone. Why not?....I don't know.

It is on a couple pound piece of rock I got a few hours ago from the LFS. Should I take it out and throw away the rock? Can it spread in a few hours?

It's okay.. don't throw the rock out.

Get a syringe somehow.. and boil some water. Then inject the aptasia with boiling hot water. Worked for mine.

Wow that's a classic Aiptasia. Don't keep it around too long. The way I get rid of them is somewhat brutal. I dip the part of the rock with the Aiptasia in boiling water, and keep it there for awhile. It kills that part of the rock, but sure gets rid of the Aiptasia. The rock will recover in time.
