Default filtration suggestions??

as for occassional hot filtration, what is the "best" quality I can get? for a 90 gal? easily accessible for filtration changes etc... I was using a canister one, but after chatting with numerous folks, I think that this is just a nitrate factory as it is really a pain to get in there and clean it out 2-3 times a week...
I've heard good things about the emporer 400 by marineland or the penguins are supposed ot be good too -same company...

I have a couple of canisters I run at various times depending on what I want to do... I have a Filstar XP3 I run chemi-pure in almost full time... and I have a HOT magnum that I run carbon periodically in... Whichever way you decide to go, make sure it IS accessible for cleaning and changing media, unfortunately there's no real way around that.

External filters are great in FW and Fish only salt systems, but tend to be used for supplemental filtration in reefs. I hope this helps.
