![]() I'm thinking of buying a new computer.
A couple of questions for you experts out there. What is the best operating platform? Is 250GB ATA hard drive good? Is the ATI Radeon X850 XT PE a good vidoe card or is the nVidia GeForce 6800 a better video card? What are some local places that sell components and have a website? I did a search but was fairly unsuccessful.

![]() IMO:
a solid OS is linux, but no one supports it so your stuck with XP like the rest of us. by ATA i'm going to assume you mean the old IDE standard, so no go with an SATA drive. Faster, and the new standard. ATI, Nvidia, personal choice. I prefer ATI myself. NCIX is a good place to find things now and then.

![]() ncix.com, atic.ca tigerdirect.ca for pricing.
I buy all my stuff thru synapsis.ca myself, he'll beat anyone elses pricing. As mentioned before me, go with sata, your stuck with xp, and I also prefer ati for graphics cards. if you want some more detailed advice, let us know what you intend to use the pc for and a rough budget... Good luck hunting! |

![]() Thanks for the responses.
I found atic.ca and priced out a computer for $1367 (no monitor or anything) but there are still some changes to be made and probably won't buy it through them. One of canreefs members has a computer company so I'll probably buy through him.

![]() I think, you will be very happy with that. Especally that case - I have it and it is amazingly quiet.
As mentioned before though, don't actually purchase thru atic, pls buy somewhere else. They have the worst customer service I've ever dealt with and I've dealt with a LOT of computer suppliers. |

![]() Thanks for your advice.
Have they worked the bugs out of the Windows XP 64Pro or should I just go with XP Pro or XP Home? What is the preferred ATI video card?
