Default The Famous Ick

I have raised fresh water for years and ick is not a problem to get rid of. But tell me what do you think is the best way to remove ick from a Naso Tang, and my Tank is also a reef. BTW the other fish are doing fine, but remember dont ask me to catch him lol.

Prey...... if you cant catch him theres almost nothing you can do but hope he gets over it himself. You can try garlic but who knows if that actully does anything.

I add garlic to my food and that seems to work. But ever since I added 6 cleaner shrimp to my tank I have not had a problem at all

Default Ick

My yellow and blue tang had ICK before when I added them to my tank . . . I got recommended "Kent's GARLIC EXTREME" and from my experience it works

Copliments to Paul from Pauls Aquarium for suggesting this product

Seems to me Garlic is the way to go to prevent ick. When I raised Discus I used garlic in there Diet worked great. I was wondering is most of you using a UV sterilizer? If so what is the top one out there theses days.

Welcome to Canreef Winchester.

I have found garlic to help sometimes but always wondered if it was just the enviroment or not. Stress is a leading cause of ick. Saying that, a Naso requires a very large tank for its well being.

In certain situations the only cure is removal and treatment in quarentine but I have seen ick go away in tangs, as long as they are placed tanks with no stress and lots of healthy foods, with algaes and the such being their main one. I used to put garlic and Selcon on spirolina flakes and also on the sheets of nori type algaes we feed them.

I use a 40w Lifeguard UV sterilizer on my 100g. It's a big, honking unit with I think a Mag5 pump on it. Been happy with the zapping of any ick that appears. The new TurboTwist is much more compact but have never used one.

I have a cleaner wrasse and several cleaner shrimp together. They are worth their weight in gold. I also have a turbotwist UV sterilizer but I think it's the above mentioned cleaning crew that make the real difference in my tank. Any sign of ich seems to be gone the next day.

Good Luck,

I once got ich five years ago and thats when I got my first cleaner wrasse than shortly after a cleaner shimp for my tank and have never seen/had ich since. I believe 100% that they keep ich away and they are also cool to watch with their cleaning station set up. nothing like seeing your fish hover while the cleaner shimp climbs over it or the wrasse doing its thing.
