If you want to get the vinigar smell out try acid (can get it at Rona)

Big Blue Barrels

This is the guy I get barrels from. Having a removable lid is very handy. The residual food additive syrup is easily removed with hot water.

No go on the bleach. I thought that would get rid of it too but nothing.....
