Live sand is simply dead sand that has been colonized by bacteria. Adding dead sand will result in live sand in a few weeks, as soon as it's colonized by bacteria. All substrate in a tank is "live" within weeks of being added.

ya that's exactly how I thought of it also, but Iv seen so many Zeovit tanks have problems with using new live sand. Not sure why but it always causes cyano and crazy algae blooms. I just want to prevent any problems in the future since i don't have to much coral yet. |

![]() Instead of selling it, just wash in FW and dry, add back to tank. Then it's dead
