![]() it certainly is a cooler water fish, BSJF is one of my favorite fish, because of him I have to fill 5'' of sandbed. this is my second try on my newly 29 biocube. I used to have my temperature on 78-82 but fish died after 3rd day. I have lower my temp to 72-75. I have my second one for a month now. eating and burrowing everywhere. very interesting fish to watch. make sure you spot feeding at the beggining as they will hide in your rocks. JL sell them for $179.99 make sure he is eating before you pick him up.

![]() definitely a cooler water fish, collected from deeper waters..... our warmer tank temps open their skin up to bacterial infections..... prolly why it is rare to hear of people keeping them long term....

Really depends on which article you read. Bob Fenner indicates seeing them at 30 foot depths and professes them as a cooler water species who don;t do well in typical reef aquariums Dr. Fosters and Smith indicate they generally suffer from very poor collection methods and that this is where their reputation for susceptibility to bacteria comes from. They indicate this fish will do fine in a typical reef tank. I do know of one hobbyist who kept one for 2 years in a 50 gallon that was on average around 78 degrees f. I'm on the fence with this fish. Have always wanted one but might just get a gold specs instead for 1/10th the money. |
