Just cut a piece of 1.5" pipe for the slip/slip coupling. I find Lowes the best place here in Calgary for PVC plumbing parts, I'm not sure in Edmonton.

lol....hows a piece of pipe gonna work as a coupling for pipe?

Socket coupling are to connect pipe, since he said slip/slip coupling, I assumed he was connecting 1.5" fittings. He could have meant internal coupling but why would you want to introduce a restriction if it isn't necessary.
