![]() My first problem is buying the right stuff from the hardware store.
I saw things in the plumbing section that look very similar and confused. ![]() Some are threaded and some are not thread. I guess may be to begin by asking: what are the parts I need to connect my 1 inch bulk head to 1 inch flexible hose and i inch PVC pipe? Does it called "insert" that has one end threaded? I would be ideal if I just have a shopping list with the exact name and size so that I can pick the right stuff from the hardware store. |

![]() If the bulkhead has no threads inside the pipe it is a "slip" fit. Bulkheads can also be half threaded and half slip or threaded all the way through. In the slip case you can just prime the pipe, put some glue around it and just slide the pipe into the bulkhead as far as it can go. You could plumb everything with slip fits if wanted to but I prefer threaded adaptors so things can be taken apart easily. Unions also come in handy to quickly remove the pump for any maintenance. If you are using 1" lines for everything then all your fittings will be labeled 1" in the store as well even though it may not look like it. Does your pump have a 1" discharge as well? If not you may need an adaptor.
