Fungus on sun coral?

Ok so it's not a fungus on the side? I'm freaked right out and ready to take the table saw to the whole side of the coral. I feel sick to my stomach thinking this is harming my tank.

I am in the process ( before my husband gets home from work) of making up a bunch of fish food. Cyclo, mysis, clam, squid, garlic etc. I have been feeding each polyp with tweezers daily since I brought it home. It eats and stays open for a few hours afterwards. I really want to find dendro but no fish stores near me have ever had it. Going to have to treck into the city.

Its a sponge. And they are good for your tank. They help filter bad stuff out.
