I dont mind soldering but liked the idea of getting the leds as close together as possible. It seemed alittle harder to do with the star mounted style rather than the modular led style with 2 leds per board. Might have to fiddle with a multichip.

you should check out rapidled's Aurora puck. They essentially made a DIY Radion. The look and color layout is very close to the radion.

Ive looked at that, couldnt find much for reviews on the net. The cree lumia 5.2 from led group buy looks interesting too, similar price point.
