Raising calcium

I know this has been hashed out on forums ad nauseum, but is there a consensus on how quickly I can raise my levels?

I did upto 40ppm without any ill effect. 20ppm is where people probably sets the barrier.

BRS recommends 50ppm max per day. This is the rule I have blindly followed although I have never done more than 40 at once.
