![]() So I've been thinking about changing my sand bed. It's currently a finer sand that can't be vaccumed up easily. I wanna switch it to a lot coarser of a bed that can be vaccumed easily. What are your thoughts/tips? Am I crazy? Will the new sand need to cycle first? Help? Here is a current pic of tank.

![]() You can siphon it out in a couple goes with each water change. You can also use the barebottom time frame to give the tank a good turkey basting -- all the detritus will accumulate in a few easily removed piles. Add coarser substrate once you're satisfied

![]() I think your nuts to be honest. You need to find someone else to clean your sand for you instead of trying to switch it out for something that will be more work . Fighting conches , nassarius snails , and cerith snails as a team will do 10x the work to keep your sand clean than you will put in , there supper depends on it . I used this team to turn my sand bed into a sparkling beauty and never had to lift a finger !
