call an Alberta registry office and state you holds a drivers license from Ireland and wants the process to drive in Alberta
You shouldn't have to wait a year I had family friends moved over and it worked for them

why phone a alberta registry unless you "live" in alberta. with an alberta address.
Not sure why the wait ??? can you get a class 3 instead

Ugh I hated working service rigs not my ideas of fun but hope you do well at it
And as others have said call either Service BC or ALTA Services both can answer your questions
