Praying Mantis
These large insects have an appetite for most garden pests. Praying mantis eggs are set out in the garden where they hatch and quickly grow to adult size. The eggs are available through mail-order and online catalogues.

Probably white flys on the creeper and leaf roller on the rose ,almost all sprays are not safe for fish but there are some great safe sprays that clean them up ,entrust for leaf roller ,organic works unreal or success same spray but has a sticker added and movento safe systemic deals with white flys.another way is with Cygon u paint the trunk of roses ,birch, and i think creeper check label moves up the system and done be careful where gloves read instructions

+100 for neem oil it's natural and works on most pest. Not cheap. But buy the oil warm it up mix with water and spray. Spray down wind as it can be a resp irritant

Default Green thumb ;)

Don't suppose you could get a pic of the holes in the leaves? That would help a lot, and also does the damage happen at night (do you actually see the insects, what type of bug are they etc.)?

Careful with the neem oil, it can be quite toxic to aquatic life. I use it to take care of certain outdoor infestations but Parrot's Feather (Myriophyllum) in particular doesn't like the overspray. There were no fish in the barrel (literally or figuratively lol) so I don't know how it affects them.

I couldn't find the neem oil

I have tried some insecticide soap - says it will deal with white flies

we shall see how it goes.

will try to take pictures tomorrow of the rose bush and the cutting marks.
thanks again for the advice

Neal
