![]() Very interesting!
So, with the "true" Balling method, is it correct that you have to pull out SW and replace with FW because otherwise the SG will have a tendency to creep up. Is that correct? This is where having 4 dosing pumps is advantageous because the 4th is used for pulling out SW (which then gets replaced by auto-topup)?

The specific gravity WILL increase over time (very slowly over a very long period of time) when using the Balled Method. This is not really noticeable and is of little consequence because the change happens so slowly that regular water changes "rests" the tank to the proper salinity. This is a VERY SLOW increase and is never an issue. The advantage of the Balling Method is in part due to the fact that the solution is always balanced ionically which is not true of the "Balling Light 2 part". There is no need for a fourth dosing pump, as this change is so slow, it would even be very difficult to regulate with a dosing pump. |

![]() Ah, well, good to hear. I thought I had read in early articles in the past that the free chloride ion from part A (Calcium chloride) binds with the free sodium ion from part b (Sodium bicarbonate), thus driving up the S.G. secondarily. But I would think that could apply to any 2-part dosing regime so maybe the tanks that were doing this were using a part C with additional NaCl.

![]() The system that Hans-Werner Balling is developed to be balanced, this is what makes it different.
