![]() So disaster struck last night and it was long after I had sorta cleaned up what I could that I realized that deja vu feeling struck me because I've done this before. Just never this badly and I have no idea how I had forgotten.
I wanted to drain all the water from my display into the toilet in the bathroom and the only hose I have long enough is a 50 foot garden hose I had in the basement. I had used it to drain my 400 so there were pockets of water in it still... I just couldn't get a siphon started. So I was going to start one by placing the hose to the bathroom tap and running water into it until it exited into the display. I did the same thing when draining the 400. I had the faucet on full blast for about 60 seconds and was just cupping my hand around the hose and faucet... most of the water seemed to be going into the hose but nothing was coming out. so i shut the water off and that's when it struck me... the output on the faucet is decorative unlike most kitchen faucets. the actual spigot is inside the fixture and with back-pressure on the decorative end the water was flowing back inside the fixture, down through my floor and into the basement! i couldn't hear the falling water with the tap actually on @#$%! Right below the bathroom are all my tools, storage stuff like boxes with photo albums and our filing cabinet and the furnace. water was dripping from ductwork going into the darn furnace. So I guess I'm trying to say don't try and force water into a hose from the bathroom faucet! this works on traditional kitchen taps where the outlet you *see* is actually where the water's only source is. ![]() Why not just use a venturi pump?! You screw it onto the threads @ a faucet so there is nothing to forget. $10 @ petsmart.
