![]() Was wonderding if anyone uses Chaeto in the nano tank for nutrient export. I have a bio cube 29 and was thinking of putting Chaeto in the back internal overflow and have an led light strip that lights up at night for the Chaeto.
Does anyone own a nano and has tried this method? I'm talking about sumpless tanks. |

![]() I've had a couple different BioCubes in the past, and I always did an egg crate media rack with three/four shelves. On the top was filter floss, then a pag of cemi-pure elite, then a larger section for cheato, and then live rock rubble. Worked amazing for me. Sometimes the older BioCubes have a fully painted background, so you may have to razorblade the middle section off to get a light in the back.
This link is killer for all things Bio Cube Upgrade related. http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/18078...esource-guide/

![]() I'm running Chaeto in 2 nano's... a JBJ 12 and an Oceanic BC14.
Both are within the sump area, with white/royal LED's on the back of the glass (coating scraped off). I'm running the lights when the main lights are off -- and have noticed significant and consistent Chaeto growth, less PH swing, and less GHA growth (down to near zero from very significant) -- which the GHA growth was why I started running the Chaeto in the first place. ![]() I wouldnt run a nano without algae based nutrient export...
Chaeto being the best as far as being a fast grower who can handle 24 hour daylight without going sexual. |

![]() Unless you want to spend lots of money on an acutal fuge light (JBJ makes a great one for slipping it onto the back of these tanks) the best bet is to go buy a good old 6500ish K grow bulb and a regular clamp on fixture that suits the space you have behind the tank. Cheap and easy. I was trimming my cheato every 5-7 days with this setup.
Check these out, they fit awesome back there: Good http://www.jbjlighting.com/prod-macro-glo.html Better http://www.jbjlighting.com/prod-nano-glo.html
