I don't hear any noise out of mine. I don't use the pulse mode to create the wave though, which you do hear a little bit of a hum as it does its pulses. Have you made sure your spacer is set according to your glass thickness and you can also move the wetside around a bit if it's a vibration noise.

Either way, I love my Vortechs!

if you use caribsea seaflor you've got zero to worry about.

not ideal for wrasses that like buying themselves though.

I have the Seaflor special grade reef. I know there's another seaflor that is pretty much shells and other huge bits, but this stuff is a good chunk heavier than the sand I usually use. Which one are you refering to?

Also, for reference, I do have an MP40 that I've been using for close to a year now. I don't mind the noise at all and think most of the claims are exagerrated, or improper alignment.

I guess as soon as I have a chance, I'll try the MP40 that close to the sand and see what the result is.
