It's just maple plywood (3/4"), corner maple pieces hide the plywood edges. Here's a beam I haven't put up yet:

Maybe the pic is too small to see but I swear the grains are continuous edge to edge on all sides? You're staining the ends that show the plys? To my eyes all sides look like nice maple?

Wait by corner maple pieces you mean 3/4 veneer strips? Still can't even see those if that's the case.

Most of the pieces up there have edge banding on them to cover the edges. Originally I just planed on doing that without the corner covers but I later decided to add the corner covers because it looked better. By corner covers I mean these:

So I won't be bothering with edge banding for the remaining beams.

What type of material are you using for the frosted inlays in between the woodwork? Looks pretty slick with the RGB led backlighting.
It's not frosted inlays, it's just drywall cut to size and painted white, here's a pic of one of the LED covers removed. You can see one of the screws holding the drywall up and the led strip light.

Yeap, my house has sprinklers installed in every room and closet. Ties straight into a 2" water line at 100psi so I only need to worry about drowning in my sleep and not smoke inhalation.

If you did you'd still be working on it. I am developing a severe problem relating to extending the amount of time and money involved to finish this basement. It was suppose to be done by Christmas.... 2011. A year over schedule and I'm half done.
