in the end all i want is a tank that's still very modestly sized but has a sump. A sump and getting rid of the bowed front will be the only reason I replace the tank. It's already loosely planned for next summer =)

Yes there is the typical whirring sound but it doesn't get all that loud at 60% and we barely noticed it after the kids went to bed. with the kids awake they become dead silent =) I only had one spot to mount the thing but the beauty of these things seems to be it barely matters where they go. I have absolutely perfect flow everywhere in the tank now. Bye bye Tunze! They've got a place in larger tanks for sure but I'm a convert. I'll add one more mp10 when I eventually transfer to a slightly larger tank next year. If this wasn't a family board i'd use a little profanity to convey how much i love this thing.
