That's too bad about the butterflies. I've heard more failures with that species than success. My one attempt also was a quick fail, he didn't survive the hazing from the established butterfly (in all fairness, it was less vicious hazing than what tangs do to each other or even fairy wrasses. They must stress out VERY easy. )

Same experience here with those gorgeous fish Tried a couple of times. Quarantined one time, FAIL. No quarantine a second time, FAIL. Just one of those fish that definitely belongs in the ocean in my opinion.

Yeah you might be right, I knew someone that kept them before in a reef tank without issue before and all my books listed them as more hardy butterfly once established so I kind of jumped on the opportunity to get a pair.

Here's the new little tank I setup upstairs in place of the old 100gal. I think it's about 25 gallons or so, no sump just a heater and a powerhead. Lit by DIY LEDs.
