I don't think it will matter much if you aquascape such that the maximum rock surface is exposed to the water without much deadspot

I am by no means an expert on this but I believe as Mrhasan stated that as long as you maximize rock surface and if your not gluing rocks together that you make sure they are stable and not easily moved.
