Actually the problem is, the 0.5" pipe is pushing out too much water (bigger surface area) and hence my corals didn't like it (maxi mini was like WTH); I want to limit that.

I think your idea will help too. Correct me if I am wrong, but with your method, you are pulling in less water right?
