Default Radion TIR release info from Aqua Digital

Here is the release info from Aqua Digital in regards to the lenses.

Video: www.ecotechmarine.com/tirlens/
Instructions: Available on EcoTechs website under support and downloads.

How much of an improvement am I likely to see after I install the TIR lens?
• In preliminary PAR testing measured up to a 45% peak PAR increase and up to 26% Average PAR increase. That measurement is taken over a 30x30 inch footprint at 12 inches from the fixture out of water- that is how original measurements were taken and is generally what LED manufacturers claim.

• You will not necessarily be able to see a difference as your eyes are not sensitive enough to determine the difference between bright and brighter. Do not look directly at the LEDS under any circumstances. If you want to see a difference side by side use a camera with manual shutter and aperture settings. EG. A DSLR. Take a picture of the tank with and without the TIR lenses from a stationary position without adjusting camera settings. You will see a difference.

• Because these TIR lenses increase the efficiency and are optimized for a 24x24 inch coverage area – in that area you will have higher par. Outside of that area – specifically at around 30 inches - the original reflectors and flat lenses will have higher par. As a result you may need to raise your TIR equipped Radion slightly if you would like to see brighter coverage at the 30+inch area.

• Additionally changing to TIR lenses should be done carefully - either raising or dimming the lights while your livestock acclimates to the higher intensity.

Are the TIR lenses more efficient?
• Yes – more of the light being produced by the LEDs is being directed into the tank. This means more usable PAR for the same energy consumption – or less energy to produce existing par levels.

Will there be less spread?
• No – in the 24x24 area that the Radion is designed for there will be unilaterally more PAR. . At the limits of the total light coverage30+ inches – PAR levels may be slightly lower. The TIR lens is designed to redirect light into the existing coverage area - not focus the light into a spotlight.

What is the lens angle?
• Lens angle is not a good measure for TIR lenses. These TIR lenses areas designed to collect and focus light into a 24x24 inch area at the highest par levels at a total distance of 30 inches. Backwards calculating from that you would get a 46 degree measure –but this has no relevance for a cluster of lenses functioning as one.

Why are the lenses recessed?
• The lenses are recessed to maximize efficiency – making them flush would have required an additional and unnecessary cover which would have simply reduced output. The recessed lenses make the same seal with the housing gasket as the original flat lens reflector combo.

If they’re better why didn’t you release these lenses when you released the Radion
• These TIR lenses are specifically designed and optimized to improve the performance of the Radion. Ensuring the same performance quality as the Radion took time and was not ready in time for the Radion launch. EcoTech plans to incorporate new technological upgrades into the Radion as they are developed and become available. EcoTech is commitment to making such upgrades as affordable as possible for its existing customers.

We're just in the process of installing the new lense.. One done one to go.

The way these are designed they don't use the lens cover. With the four extra holes isnt this going to be a problem now that the underside of the unit is no longer sealed?

There is nothing to cause an issue, the hole is too small for salt splash.
