The controller comes with a data link cable. This leads me to believe that you will be able to control your Sols using the new controller in a wired mode without having to purchase the wireless adapter for them (i think)

Do you need a controller or can you use a pc to control it?

You can control them with almost anything. Director software will be revealed at MACNA on September 28th. I am not sure if you still require a controller in order to use all of these devices but we will know real soon.
