And the gear is irrelevant. Any cheap slr can take good photos if you know how to use it

Not at all. You could give me a golden magic camera, my pics will still be crap But if you guys only need a cheap SLR, why the top of the line stuff?

I agree with you, but it's just odd that the guys saying you don't need expensive gear all have expensive gear.
