No, not true. However, you probably shouldn't have algae on your rock to begin with...

my two tangs like it. i throw a 3in pce and let them tear it up
the other fish get some pieces too

I use to go to a local fish market when I lived in saskatoon, they sold giant bags of nori off cuts from making California rolls. It was like a $1 for a lifetime supply

I don't have any bad algae growing in my tank so far. Anyway good to know that is not true, so I will feed a nori more offen.
