You could just chip the aiptasia off since you're pulling the rock out anyway. Burn it off or chisel out the piece below the base.

I'm all for the peppermint shrimp. They made the DT totally aptasia free in my case. I bought two to clean up over 220 lbs of live rock and I could have gotten by with just one. I haven't seen an aptasia since their introduction and I barely remember what they look like anymore. In your case, I would get a shrimp because aptasia is really stubborn. It's very hard to eradicate it all by hand (though not impossible).

peppermint shrimp work 50% of the time,matted file fish,injecting them with lemon juice,smothering them with kalkwasser paste,pencil blowtorch,zapper,laser,etc.the only problem with all these methods is that if one cell of the aptasia is left,it will grow into more.berghia eat the whole aptasia,and they are reef safe.putting aptasia in the sump will populate the sump with aptasia,and most likely spread to the display
