Default Found this dead...

I was looking in the tank today. I noticed this crab dead upsize down in the front of my tank. I didn't even know I had it! Would my blenny have done it? That's the only thing bigger than it in my tank... Interesting though.

Probably just a molt. I find them all the time. No crab inside though...

Would it have that much color and thickness to it?

It will basically look exactly as it did when the crab was "wearing" it.

The way you can tell if it's a molt, I think they break out the backside. So if the back side is open (like a garage door almost) it's likely a molt. If the backside is intact then it might not be a molt.

Well, I used a pencil and poked it open. I'm not 100% sure what It should have looked like, but there was not much inside. So I guess it was a molt. I wonder where the little guy is hideing.......? And is he bad?

He looks like a baby mudcrab. And it probably is a molt. I couldn't believe how much the molt of my guy weighed. Thought for sure he was a goner.

He lives under the sand behind the rock and comes out at night. Knocks everything over on the sand. I don't mind him, but I wouldn't have him in my reef.

I'll have to get a red light and watch one night.

Thanks! Walter
