Personally I'd go with the 48" tank. More swimming length for fish and it just looks better IMO.

I d go with the 58g because it ll give you more room to place your rocks and ur aquascaping will look better.

I have a 50 thats 36x18x18 and i wish it was even deeper, depth makes the tank seem MUCH bigger then lengh IMO.

Ditto for me. I think the wider tank is far better for aquascaping. I have tried a four foot tank that was 12" wide, but finally settled on the 36x18x18".
I avoid fish that need the greater length such as some Tangs. I finally got a Yellow Eye Tang that is fine with the three foot length.

trouble with the 55 is there's barely room to turn around... its what, 12" deep? once you've got your rocks and stuff all in, its too tight front-to-back.
the length is good and all, but the depth - what spike said.

jmo, etc

I have a 36x18x24 65gal which I think is perfect for my little reef. My 90 is much better for my FOWLR.

Default 55 or 58 ?

Six of one - half a dozen of the other . Looks like it falls into personal preference .

I was kind of thinking that the 48" would be easier and cheaper to find lighting ?

Am I right in my assumption ?
