No this is my display tank. Sps, LPS, mushrooms and zoas. I am running 2x 250 hqi but find them too strong.

What lamp do you run for your halides?
And the reflector?

For keeping sps, call me old school but IMO T5's and halides are still the way to go. Then supliment with LED's as the pop that you get from Reef Brite LED's is just out of this world and WAY better than any other LED that we have ever tried.

Here are a couple tank shots from Hookup in Ottawa. He posts on RC and on our local forum, but not here so much so I will post them up.

Here is a true super man montipora (not the indo variety)

Here is the same piece when the Reef Brites are on:

I can post some more of Hookups pics up if you would like. He has a pretty insanely nice tank. He runs an 10 lamp ATI power module and these pics were taken with a single 48" regular Reef Brite added on, not even the XHO!

We are planning on modding his existing fixture by removing the 2 lamps that are controlled by the one plug and mounting some Reef Brites in their place so as to maintain the super sleak look of the fixture.... Not sure if it will work but we will see.

Thats what I may have to do then. Go with T5 for daylight with actinic suppliment.

I am running the phoenix 14 in Lumenbright pendants and galaxy ballasts. The bottom of the pendant is probably 5 or 6 inches from the water surface, 8-10 inches from the top of the corals. The bulbs is even higher. I was thinking of trying 20k but I dont need 250w over an 17" deep tank.

I think your pendants are too close to the water surface.
I used to run the lumen bright pendants. When I had them on my display they were mounted around 12" off the water surface and on our shallow coral beds they were mounted 18"-24" above the water surface depending on the coral bed.

I had to build a crazy tall canopy for my display to accomodate these reflectors and I ended up switching them out for T5 almost right away...
Then shortly added the Reef Brites as suplimentation to the T5's.

I was running the same lamps and reflector but on the coralvue dimmable ballsts and i did get some great growth and coloration with that combo.

Thought I'd share an update and give credit where it's due. Especially since I shared a negative experience on this thread

After reading about my issue I got a PM from Pfoster at Reef Wholesale stating that he had never been approached by the retailer about this issue and offering to replace the defective unit. So, I sent him the broken one and got a brand new one in the mail.

Gotta say that I'm really impressed with the customer service from Reef Wholesale. It changed a pretty negative experience to a positive one.

Thanks
