![]() Ya I had some bad math going on here.... 2x SOL plus controller is about $890.00 so it's more like 80% more....

![]() But. . . . with the SOL you can put anything you like in your tank. With T5's and a deeper tank you do have to take coral placement into consideration and even more so with a 4-bulb unit.

![]() Why don'y you get a Tek fixture instead of the Aquaticlife? I think the Tek has better reflectors than the Aquaticlife. Take a look at reefcentral's tank of the month. This tank is approximately 135 gallons, 36” x 36” x 24”. It's lit by a a 36" 6 bulb T5 Tek fixture and it's not even the Tek Elite. It's evident that T5's can grow SPS and just about any coral, you just have to get a decent fixture.

![]() Tek doesn't appeal to me for the reasons that the Aquaticlife has the built in times and moon lights, missing the splash guard but that's an extra with the TEK anyways. Neither are that great to look at when on the tank .

How wide front to back is your tank? If it's 4 feet I'm going to guess at least 18" in which case you would need a 6 bulb t5 fixture. Also, if you're set on T5's buy the one with the better reflector... moonlights and timers can be added very inexpensively to any fixture. |

![]() ^^^^^ $499.00 bulbs included delivered from a supplier I have dealt with down east, I believe the fixture comes with bulbs not that I would keep the so ya add the cost....From the beginning of my saltwater tanks I have run with what people call an bizzare amount of light and have got by. So to go with a 6 bulb fixture would take alot of acclimating, ten fold with LED. The nice thing about SOL is with a longer take upgrade I could still use the lights. with a 48" fixture not so much... Anyways still wondering if anyone knows about the quality on the Aquaticlife light.

![]() I bought this same fixture (48" AL) about a year ago, It was priced just under $500 as I remember at BigAl in Edmonton, that included the bulbs (two actinic, 2 10k and 8 blue LED moons)...I did end up buyin mine used here on canreef for the sum of about $300 if memory serves me right. I thought it was a great fixture for the "new to salt me", I had no issues with the softy's etc. but was also bitten by the upgade bug shortly after and am now running all highend LED systems on three SW set-ups...Thus said, if you're anything like me, I think it's better to buy the fixture you really want off the get go or look for someone who wants to upgrade and save yourself a bunch of $$ buying used.

![]() think of it this way.......while two sols may cost 80% ish more......how many years before buying bulbs will make the T5 more expensive?...... using only 50% of the sols power, will vastly decrease the heat generated and greatly extend the bulb life.......the savings will show up in your power bill and you will need to make less top-off water....
