It was originally using a bluewave 7 ballast which runs 2x250w. I bought this unit as a package deal specifically to get the ballast.
You can buy the exact same thing (will plug right into it) from Dave here: http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=80221 Or if you'd prefer to buy electronic ballasts you can find some used as well I'm sure. These will need to be spliced yourself unless the newer electronic sunlight supply ones have the same connectors. |

Hmm I personally haven't been to Daves shop but I've heard great things about it. Is the T5 ballast shot too?

Okay, is there any coral you would like in return? I could give you a Kenya tree, or a chilli coral, or even 2 condylactis anemones if you want

I would look into a 6 bulb T5 fixture, many will fit into your budget new. The options you'll have for bulbs will allow you to adjust the overall intensity for whatever you plan to keep. For lower light you could put in a couple actinics for more effect while if you wanted more intensity use more high par rated bulbs.
