 Actually, this is exceedingly common. If you look at the terms and conditions on any warranty, the agreement is that the warranty is non-transferable and only covers the product so long as it's the original purchaser purchasing from a retail outlet.
There's probably a host of reasons for it, but it's common.
Ninja edit: But this doesn't seem to be the case here and Ecotech is promising the warranties on the four units being sold then I'd imagine that the warranties will be valid.
